Time and Task – A lesson from Daniel

The thing that would really upset me is to be assigned with a task that requires to be accomplished in a “short” (I may say) period of time.I remember when Jesus said that in order to  build a house with a durable foundation you must have sufficient time to think and plan.It is true that in order for us to have better plans we need a quality time planning, praying, reading God’s word and brainstorming with other people in order for a better thought and better ideas to come forth. I remember during the time of my “apprenticeship” as an officer, the best activities that the Movement of Adventist Students experienced are the results of those tiring meetings of talking, debating, praying and most specially crying–crying to God for mercy!.Amid of those struggles during the meeting we are assured that God will always intervene because this work is not  ours.God wants us to reason out with Him and cast all our cares and problems to Him because He cares for us and for the movement. There is no problem that God has no way to escape. God has thousands of ways of which we know nothing. And such moments to be spent with Jesus requires  time.
Yet amid of having a quality time with Jesus, time would not suffer us to spend much longer. Deadlines, perhaps the most enemy of quality, will strike us to realize that there is an appointed end for everything. I remember Nebuchadnezzar when he had this awful dream which he could not remember, he asked all the wise men in his kingdom  to tell him and interpret the dream that He had . This is an impulsive and compulsive work! A task that needs to be accomplished in a short period of time or else the wise men will suffer the consequence. But let us view the Scriptures how Daniel overcame such circumstance.

Then Daniel answered with counsel and wisdom to Arioch the captain of the king’s guard, which was gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon:He answered and said to Arioch the king’s captain, Why is the decree so hasty from the king? Then Arioch made the thing known to Daniel. Then Daniel went in, and desired of the king that he would give him time, and that he would shew the king the interpretation. Dan. 2:14-16

See! Time for heart preparation is important in doing a task.

Then Daniel went to his house, and made the thing known to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions: That they would desire mercies of the God of heaven concerning this secret; that Daniel and his fellows should not perish with the rest of the wise men of Babylon. Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.-Daniel 2:17-19

The secret of Daniel is in His God. When he told God about the matter, God hears and answers the problem which involves not only them but also the rest of the unbelieving Chaldean wise men.

In this type of work in which God alone can accomplished we need time with God and ask great things of Him because this is His work. A quality time is needed for contemplation and prayer. Time to acknowledge that our sufficiency is of God.Until we grasp the promise of receiving His wisdom and strength, then we can do all things through Christ.

Nothing is impossible with God and nothing is too heavy that He cannot bear. Spend time with Him before doing the work.Until the commandment become clear into our understanding then we go forward in faith, doing the work faithfully even in a short period of time because Christ is our strength and wisdom.
